I'm Pablo Benlliure, a Spanish Game and Level Designer from Valencia. My interest in game development started long before I had even considered games as something one could build a career around. I vividly remember getting Super Smash Bros. Brawl on my birthday as a kid, and spending more time on the stage editor than playing the game itself. From then, I moved on to creating more complex game experiences in Little Big Planet 1&2, Minecraft, and eventually Scratch, once my school offered some classes, but what really sold me on actually pursuing a life as a GameDev was playing the original Super Mario Maker in 2015.
I studied Game Design at ESAT (Escuela Superior de Arte y TecnologĂa), one of the best videogame schools in Spain. There I met lots of other creatives from across the Spanish games industry. I was lucky enough to participate in our end of year project along with 16 other students, and Senior industry professionals acting as our producers. I can confidently say this was some of the most fulfilling work I have ever done, and has convinced me there's no better place for me to be than working with other talented people in this industry that brings joy to so many people's hearts.
Beyond videogames, I have always been interested in science fiction and fantasy literature, mythology and writing, along with other common hobbies such as music, comics and cinema, but my biggest passion are tabletop gaming and RPGs. I have been a Game Master for years, and have encyclopedic knowledge of several systems and game worlds, such as Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade and obviously D&D (I have had the honour of DMing a years long campaign that reached level 20, based on the events of Baldur's Gate 1&2).
TTRPGs are my darling, and I feel extremely lucky for it, because it means the skills from my hobby and my professional work feed into each other, making me better at both. I truly think that TTRPGs have made me better as a Game Designer, keeping my creativity sharp while forcing me to communicate every aspect of an interactive world to my players, just like how I would communicate my ideas to my team and come up with interesting challenges to add to a level.
